Yuletide

Yuletide was both fun and stressful! The assignment I got was incredibly challenging and out of my comfort zone, but I tried really hard. The fic I got (So Many Miles and So Long) was astounding in quality. I loved it a lot. And I'm extra, extra glad there is more Lord Roxton/Edward Malone fic in this world now. I mean, it was practically canon, considering how it ended. It's a relationship I get really flaily about, because the subtext was delicious. Oh, and [personal profile] fairyniamh also wrote me a Stanley Kids Series fic called Boys Are Dumb! So it wasn't exactly IN Yuletide, but it was inspired BY Yuletide, and I was thrilled with it.

And I wrote three fics for Yuletide. :) For my main fic, I wrote a threesome! With two women and a man! I still don't think I managed to make it very sexy, but I do think it's kind of pretty. It's called The Distance Between Stars, and I really liked how I framed it. That I was really proud of! :)

Then I wrote A Very Happy Hitchhiker's Christmas and fucked up the title because OF COURSE I DID, but it's fixed now, so just hush. This is my best story in years. Thursday_Next had a prompt that just grabbed me, and since I've always wanted to play in that fandom I thought I'd give it a whirl. And OMG I LAUGHED SO HARD WRITING IT. Basically, this fic was just like my wildest Snarry fics--totally improbable and a blast to write.

It was also the fic that featured the Windolene, so thank you to my oh-so-British flisties for the suggestion. :)

A Very Happy Hitchhiker’s Christmas (4248 words) by abstractconcept
Fandom: Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy - Douglas Adams
Warning: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Arthur Dent/Ford Prefect
Characters: Arthur Dent, Ford Prefect, Zaphod Beeblebrox
Summary: In which Arthur Dent gets just what he wanted for Christmas, except the tea, and Ford Prefect gets the thing he's been pining for.

“You’re always going on about your spleen, like it’s so great.” Ford poked Arthur in the chest with a certain drunken belligerence.

And then, ha ha, because I was just SURE writing a case!fic for Pushing Daisies would be easier than writing a threesome with het (AHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHHHHAHAHAAAAAAaaaahahahaahahahaahahahahhaha: IT'S TOTALLY FUCKING NOT EASIER AT ALL) I tried my hand at that.Oh, wow, mysteries are hard. Plus, you know, it was the last thing I wrote and right in the middle of the holidays, so I had limited brainpower for it. So basically I threw some brainstorming together back in late November, then ignored the whole thing until approximately two days prior to Yuletide, then sat down and wrote the whole thing in a panic, and threw it at [personal profile] fairyniamh, who, to her credit, found time to beta it and get it back to me ON CHRISTMAS EVE, how's that for amazing? <3 So yeah, I'd like to say if I had another week to work on it, it would be more polished, but let's face it, I just would have procrastinated even longer, so. I would have liked to put in another subject and I left out a pun and I might have tweaked a couple of things, but to be honest? It's still one of the better things I've written. And it's long, I mean for something I wrote in two days. Also, it's gen! It's funny and alliterative and I think I stayed really, really true to the tone of the show, so on the whole I'm super proud of it. Plus, the recipient liked it and so did other people, and that was really nice. :) The reviewers were super kind to me, and it was really appreciated. That pretty much describes my whole Yuletide experience!

For Love or Money (10937 words) by abstractconcept
Fandom: Pushing Daisies
Warning: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Charlotte Charles/Ned (Gen)
Characters: Ned (Pushing Daisies), Charlotte, Emerson Cod, Olive Snook
Summary:Little Daisy Darling (salesperson of the month and Olive Snook Look-alike) seemed to be in love with her boss, Huge Hugh McGrew, a very dead ringer for Emerson Cod. But Hugh was in love with his wife, the equally plus-sized Rustie McGrew. When Huge Hugh finds himself with a cord around his neck and three holes in his chest, Miss Daisy is the prime suspect.

Also I tried to LJ-cut this but it keeps fucking up the formatting. I'm sorry. :(

Is LJ stable yet? Just in case it's not, I'm going to try crossposting this. (I'm also on DW so feel free to friend me or circle me or what the fuck ever over there, and I will do you back).

I wanted to thank [personal profile] spike7451 and Demicus for the lovely e-cards! And [personal profile] felaine and [personal profile] amethyst_hunter and [personal profile] isisanubis for the Christmas cards! Isis, yours was so *sparkly* I keep staring at it, haha. And [personal profile] amethyst_hunter , yours really made me laugh. :) Oh, and thank you to [personal profile] fairyniamh , [personal profile] carolinelamb  and darkladyvamp for the yummy cookies! :D

I got something unexpected for Christmas; just as I was leaving the family gathering my father shouted for me (I was standing about a foot away, but he thought I'd left and panicked) and then followed me outside so he could cram a two-foot sausage in my trunk, ha ha. Actually, he gave me about six pounds of ground elk, and then, like I said, this massive summer sausage. Which I accidentally left in my trunk until the next day--I must have overlooked it when I was taking stuff out. On the plus side, it was fucking freezing out, so my sausage remained an ice block the entire time. The ground elk though--I don't know what to do with it all. Any recipes? Ground beef recipes I could substitute elk into? Keeping in mind I'm trying to be healthy.

Anyway, I don't know exactly how big that sausage is, but it's BIG. Here is a picture of it passing inspection:Read more... )
Anyway! I'm still alive, just suffering massive allergies these days. Expect a couple more posts from me about Yuletide and year end stuff. :)

What are your favorite recipes for dressing or stuffing? This year I think I'm going to do a Cornish game hen and pretend it's sort of a turkey, and do all the trimmings. We always do my uncle's place for Thanksgiving, so I never get to try to cook this stuff. I want to do a dressing from scratch, darn it.

Also, I bought this balsamic glaze and it's to DIE for. I put in on beets this weekend and on strawberry ice cream yesterday. I'm not a big fan of strawberries, to be honest. The weird thing is, the balsamic just made it taste . . . strawberrier, if that makes sense? It was kind of a surprise. I only bought a little bitty thing of ice cream though, because I'm not big on ice cream, or strawberry ice cream for that matter. I only had a couple of bites, so it should last a while. Next time I want to try it in vanilla yogurt. I like the glaze because it adds a lot of flavor with no sodium and not much calories.

Also, I am doing really well at not eating red meat. I really have cut it down to twice a week like the doctor asked. I've lowered my butter, cheese and mayo use a little bit too, but so far that's it. I still want to work on cutting back on oil and alcohol. Ideally, I'd like to do one small glass in the evening, not three big ones.

And tonight I'm going to go lift weights and use the elliptical at the gym, both for health and to help me from going NUTS working on the family project. Maybe I'll even take the night off from the family project . . . but I doubt it. There's no good tv tonight, so I have no excuse. *sigh*

And here, this is the best thing I've ever seen: Gay Men Will Marry Your Girlfriends. And if that did not fix your life, have one of these:

RECS! <3 OMG you guys, a couple of these I've been meaning to rec forever!

A Butt Grows in Brooklyn by [livejournal.com profile] tawg this is a hilarious fic in which Phil takes an arrow in the butt and Steve is there to assist in getting it out. It's hilarious!

Uncommon Courtesy by [livejournal.com profile] adele_sparks. Eeeeeeee! My birthday gift! It's Steve/Phil sexy sweet adorable fantasticness!

Boys are Dumb by [livejournal.com profile] fairyniamh, okay, you already know I love Fairniamh, but even so I loved her even more for this. She wrote me the fic of my dreams! It's Pete Garvey/David Stanley from Zilpha Keatley Snyder's The Stanley Kids series. It's just sweet and funny and absolute perfection. It made my day. Heck, it made my LIFE.

Fantasies by [livejournal.com profile] zarabithia, lovely, LOVELY hurt/comfort in which Steve is injured and Phil takes care of him.

Win a Date with Captain America! by [livejournal.com profile] evrybodysdarlin, Phil saves Steve from a sexually aggressive fan. [livejournal.com profile] evrybodysdarlin is one of my new favorite writers. I absolutely love her Phil and Steve in here. Phil is badass but insecure and just, you know, real, and Steve is amazing--charming and flustered and earnest. I absolutely love this fic.

VIDS!
First up, two vids with Captain America set to Zero to Hero, just like God intended.
The first is by Radiobroadcast

Zero to Hero by Disneykid321

and last but not least, a fun Loki/Everyone vid set to Franz Ferdinand's Darts of Pleasure

Darn, darn, double-darn, I thought I had this all sorted.

Just--name me several cleaning substances, would you? Stuff preferably that looks like a cleaning substance. Like here we have Windex to clean windows, and it is a bright blue color.

So. I need something that looks chemical, and maybe sounds like something chemical as well? Or maybe a product both the U.S. and the U.K. would be familiar with? I need something someone would look at and say, "I can't drink that, it looks like X!" and still make sense on both sides of the ocean. Any thoughts?

Cats!

Here's your big damn Avengers Monday, people!

Now, I have a slight cold, so you'll excuse me if I've sneezed all over them. Also, I'm afraid this will be my last pic post for awhile. My scrapbook is out of room so I have to post these one at a time through photobucket, which is just a huge pain. But I'm not going for a paid account while LJ is up in the air and everyone may be going to DW. Does anyone know of an easy way to mass post pics?

Well, that was somewhat longer than I thought it'd be CUT FOR A LITTLE LENGTH TO KEEP FROM CLUTTERING UP YOUR LJ.

You mean I could be doing something that doesn't involve Capsicoul? HAHAHHA, YOU'RE SO FUNNY.

abstractconcept: (Default)
Um, it was still too short so I played with it until it got longer, and, er, polished it up, and . . . yeah. Have some fic. ;D

Also, if I were taking a shot every time Fabio kissed Richard on WWHL, I would be very, very drunk. I love those two so much. :) ETA: OH, MY GOD, FABIO SQUIRTING SALAD DRESSING ALL OVER RICHARD'S FACE AND INTO HIS MOUTH!!!!! YOU DID THAT ON PURPOSE, YOU HOMOEROTIC TV PEOPLE! YOU ARE HILARIOUS AND I LOVE YOU.

Also also--they caught the guy who killed Jessica Ridgeway and tried to kidnap another woman. I will sleep much safer knowing my baby sibs are that much safer.

Uh-oh, I think this one might be broken. There's no Chris Evans at all. *pokes* Nope, it's okay. Mark Ruffalo has graciously stepped in to fulfill your hottie quota.

Have any of you made caramel/caramels before? I tried last night but it didn't turn out. I know candy is difficult, but I followed the recipe closely. The only thing that was off was the flavor. It tasted like nothing but corn syrup. The recipe called for a little, but not a whole lot. But to me it's an overpowering flavor and I find it really super gross. Should I try *gulp* an old-fashioned recipe without corn syrup? Have you ever made caramel and tasted the corn syrup in it before? I used light corn syrup; does that make a difference?

I did read on one site that "If making a caramel, and a recipe calls for corn syrup, you can substitute a dash of lemon juice or cream of tartar, which performs nearly the same function." But it was mostly talking about the way the corn syrup works and that people don't like it because of nutritional reasons, not the taste. If I can taste it, I'm assuming I did something wrong.

Maybe I'm just weird because I really don't like the taste of corn syrup and I can really notice it. It tastes foul and strange to me, not the way any candy should taste. Am I crazy?

I'm sure you guys probably read this before I did, but it's awesome enough to share it in case someone missed it. [livejournal.com profile] amethyst_hunter, you will love this, if you haven't seen it. You want to see a pro-gay-rights guy do some really elegant fucking swearing, right? Who doesn't?

“I can assure you that gay people getting married will have zero effect on your life. They won't come into your house and steal your children. They won’t magically turn you into a lustful cockmonster”: Chris Kluwe Explains Gay Marriage To The Politician Who Is Offended By An NFL Player Supporting It.

BAM.

You are now a Minnesota Vikings fan.

Or a fan of Chris Kluwe, at the very least. :D

Thank you so much for writing something for me! I'm awfully excited to get fic for one of my treasured little fandoms. Here are some of my likes and dislikes as well as some suggestions. I hope you find them useful, but if not, don't sweat it too much! If you can just keep it in the tone of the show/story that's enough for me.

General things I like: Humor, fluff, slash, slice-of-life fic, shenanigans, snark, and I'm okay with lots of kinds of kink (for instance: spanking, chan, crossdressing, power-imbalances, sex pollen--all fine!). If you have any questions, please contact adele_sparks. She's the coolest, and she knows me well.
Things I'd prefer not to get for this exchange: Grimdark, bdsm, unhappy endings, infidelity, character death, threesomes, rape, scat, genderbending, zombies. I'd prefer the fic not focus on het or femmeslash, but it's absolutely fine if there's some in the background.

Today I have for you a succulent tenderloin of juicy Avenger topped with our creamy signature sauce and served with your choice of sides. I recommend the zesty lemon macro, which pairs well with the seasonal grilled .gifs. :D

You can tell I'm in a silly mood today, huh? I got a couple of really great reviews on my Steve/Loki, which really made my day. Now if I could only figure out that top!Phil fic, I'd be in good shape. I also got a lot done this weekend, though little of it was fandomish. Inspired by the very talented [livejournal.com profile] amanuensis1, I drew up an arc reactor to carve on my pumpkin. I don't know if I'll manage it but I'll give it a try. I also bought a new red winter coat (yay! My first new winter coat in about ten years!) and made some green chili and zucchini bread. And [livejournal.com profile] fl3tch3r! Thank you for the Shwarma shirt! I love it so much! <3

Anyway, I have a TASTY spread for you today (so many pics that I had to hold some back for later, lest I give y'all the vapors) so I really hope you enjoy them!
